Charleston will always have my heart. Even though it is where i grew up, there’s just something about the Holy City that will keep you coming back. Take a look at a few of my favorite spots to experience Charleston like a local.

Stay

Before you choose a place to stay, you need to decide what you’re wanting to do the most. Do you want to be on the beach, in the city, or on a nearby island. I prefer the city and being a few miles away from the beach, it is still easy to have a beach day!

THE INNS

Stay in a luxury renovated apartment in the heart of downtown Charleston. The Inns are beautifully decorated and close to everything!

ZERO GEORGE

Located at 0 George St, Zero George is comprised of sixteen lush guest rooms and studios in three painstakingly restored historic residences and two brick carriage houses that surround our private garden courtyard. We’ve infused it all with a sense of intimacy and warm personality, honoring the buildings’ solid 1804 bones and graceful architecture with measured, timeless design. At Zero George, you’ll find both period millwork and Charleston’s best contemporary art, original heart pine floors and rooms full of heart.

Eat

Charleston is known for its food. Growing up here, I didn’t realize I was a “foodie” until moving away and not having some of the best food in the country a stones throw away.

HANKS

Hanks just does seafood right. This restaurant is a must every time I am in town.

CALLIE’S HOT LITTLE BISCUITS

A quick to-go, but must try breakfast and late night snack. I’m already drooling just thinking about their pimento cheese biscuit. The perfect southern grab and go breakfast to get on your way to the beach or on your way home from the Upper King St bars. Just trust me and go.

LEON’S

Leon’s has been a hit with every visitor to the city. With their oyster shack in the back it makes the perfect place for an oyster roast.

PANE E VINO

You can’t get better Italian than from a true Italian Chef. Pane e Vino is owned by  Alfredo Temelini who is originally from Northern Italy. This is the only true Italian place that has the same Italian feel and taste as sitting on the streets of Rome that I have had in America. If you love Italy as much as me, and wish you were able to go now, then this is the dinner spot for you!

HOME TEAM BBQ

With multiple locations in the city, this restaurant cannot be missed. Home Team is the perfect hang out spot to watch the game and enjoy the best dry wings in town. Or a late lunch/happy hour spot after a day at Sullivan’s Island beach. Be sure to order the drink, “Game Changer”, formally known as the “Pain Killer” and you’ll be feelin’ good.

Drink

So many places, you can’t go wrong. Here are a few of my favorites:

COCKTAIL CLUB

The Cocktail Club is dedicated to the art of the craft cocktail. An extensive selection of house-made infusions, rare liquors, and farm-to-shaker beverages features fresh-squeezed juices and modern ingredients You will have the coolest drinks here, and the vibes are A++.

SALTWATER COWBOYS

You can’t beat the views of this spot located right on Shem Creek. I have honestly never eaten here, but the drinks are cold and the views are good, and that’s what I’m here for.

BLIND TIGER

Blind tiger has the best back outdoor patio to sit and enjoy the nice weather of Charleston while sipping on an ice cold beverage.

MARKET PAVILLION ROOFTOP BAR

Not to be bias, but this is by far the best rooftop bar for a casual drink after sight seeing downtown. Be sure to arrive before sunset for the best views.

UPTOWN SOCIAL

This is the “it” spot these days. Great for day time and turns into a fun atmosphere at night. Perfect for anyone down to have a good time!

Shop

If you know me, you know I like to find the best spots in every city. Take a stroll down king street and pop into the shops to find something special.

HAMPDEN CLOTHING

One of the most stylish spots on King St, Hampden has a unique display of designer’s where you will find something you don’t see everywhere else.

CROHGANS JEWEL BOX

By far my favorite store to stop in. Croghans is a long standing local shop that has amazing jewelry pieces that are designed and made in house. Check out their “Gold Bug” Collection.

V2V

A contemporary women’s boutique with must have brands like Amanda Uprichard and Free People.

ANTIQUE SHOPS

Stop in one of the many antique shops lining lower King St. You never know what treasures you may find!
